Gap Year

WimX offers a limited number of unique "coaching and training" apprenticeships for players aged 16 or above. They are designed for players who want to enhance their career options whilst still training and trying to fulfill their own tennis potential. The apprenticeship is not about just learning to be a coach, it's about covering bases and gaining experience and qualifications that can help those after they are no longer pursuing playing ambitions of their own. It also allows for the candidates to earn some money whilst they are training.

There is no specific rating requirement as this scheme can service an 8.2 as easily as a 2.2 rating. WimX firmly believe that candidates will become better coaches if they continue to improve their own games and the playing part of the apprenticeship will be essential for any candidates who are looking to go on to a college tennis scholarship, and this playing element will also service the more inexperienced players who can only benefit from improving their own standards in a constructive environment.

There are two types of apprenticeship both of which are tailored to individual requirements.

1. Sports Coaching Apprenticeships L2 and L3 - in partnership with SEEVIC college. These apprenticeships are government funded and are made up of four recognised leisure industry qualifications. This apprenticeship and can lead on to a sports Foundation Degree or any career in the sport and leisure sector. The qualification element of this course will involve approximately one day per week, and candidates will train and gain work experience. There is specific qualifying criteria and to found out more about this, please contact us for more information on the criteria.

2. Bespoke Apprenticeships - for those that fall outside of the criteria and/or have specific vocational needs.

All apprenticeships are specifically tailored to the individual candidate

A 17 year old with GCSEs and A-S levels who is a 9.1 and wants to be a community tennis coach and a personal fitness trainer.

The plan of action:
take the L2 and L3 apprenticeship. Train to improve their own standard and rating as well as taking a tennis coaching qualification and a fitness trainer qaulification. Work as a tennis assistant within the wimx program and work as an apprentice with the strength and conditioning manager, gaining valuable experience in both fields. Built into this program is a summer working in Europe or America. On completion this pathway will lead to a WimX career.
