Working in the fitness industry

Working in the fitness industry can be a satisfactory full-time job or it can provide a great second income. There are plenty of opportunities to be either employed or work for yourself and many have made the transition to this sector when changing their careers.

The fitness industry qualifications we offer are all REPS accredited and make you work-ready by just taking one course. All of our qualifications are taught face-to-face and provide a full supportive learning experience with NO EXAMS. We are committed to helping our students achieve their goals and have had much success in getting students through courses where others have failed.

The Fitness Pathway

Step 1: Take our Level 2 Certificate Fitness Instructing Course
The first step is to become a Fitness Instructor. There are no pre-requisites for this course and just this one course can lead on to a successful career in the fitness industry. Our qualification is REPS level 2 accredited and you are able to take units in gym based exercise, teaching activity to children, exercise to music and water-based exercise. You can obviously do more than one of these streams and WimX currently offer the gym-based exercise.

Once you have the fitness instructor qualification, you can apply for the many REPS level 2 jobs out there and you are able to teach exercise to groups and provide gym inductions as well as gym maintenance and administration work.

Step 2: Take our Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training
If you want to work on personal training programs and advise on nutrition with your own clients then you need to take the Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training. This will provide you with all the benefits of the fitness instructor but also enable you to charge and earn more per hour and get more involved with your clients. If you are seeking a job within a gym, then having this qualification will improve your salary.

Facts about the fitness industry

Did you know that the fitness industry is one of the few industries that has continued to grow in the UK throughout the economic recession? The industry was valued at £3.92 billion and with the rising number of mobile trainers, boot camps and outdoor fitness instructors it is just not reliant on the gym industry alone and it is easier than ever to start up as a self-employed fitness trainer.

If you did want to work in a gym, it’s good news there too as there are circa 170 new centres opening up every year in the UK and they are also looking for fitness instructors and personal trainers.
