Learners successfully completing this qualification will be able to gain access to the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at level 2. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a training course which teaches people how to identify, understand and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue.
MHFA won’t teach you to be a therapist, but it will teach you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis – and even potentially stop a crisis from happening.
You’ll learn to recognise warning signs of mental ill health, and develop the skills and confidence to approach and support someone while keeping yourself safe.
You’ll also learn how to empower someone to access the support they might need for recovery or successful management of symptoms. This could include selfhelp books or websites, accessing therapy services through their GP, their school or place of work, online self-referral, support groups, and more.
What’s more, you’ll gain an understanding of how to support positive wellbeing and tackle stigma in the world around you.
This is a non-assessed 1 or 2 day course. The 1 day course gives you the title of an “MHFA Champion” and the 2 day course “MHFA First Aider”.
This one day course that outlines the skills required for first aiders in lower-risk workplaces to manage first aid calmly and confidently. It will enable the candidate to become a qualified first aider in their workplace. It will provide the candidate with a knowledge and understanding of first aid within the workplace and is relevant to all businesses.
Delivery will be by presentation, discussion, demonstration and practical simulation.
The Level 3 First Aid At Work course is more advanced than the basic 1 day EFAW training. Designed to ensure that on successful completion of the course delegates are trained first aiders in the workplace in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
This qualification coupled with an L3 in Education and Training is required if you wish to become a first aid instructor
