Welsh National Padel Partner 

WimX is proud to be appointed as the Welsh National Padel Partner and is supporting Tennis Wales in the growth and development of national players, coaches, and venues across the country.

Working alongside the National Development Manager we will support three main areas:

1. Coach development, with the provision of coach education opportunities and workshops and facilitate 

2. Player development through training camps, tournament support and individual player development plans.. 

3. Venues with mutually beneficial workforce schemes

  WimX will assist the process for the selection of Four Nation Teams and be an active member of the partnership management group.

Support For Players

Purpose

Our role is to develop and support players across certain age groups, strengthening the national teams through regular training activities, tournament support and player management. To be considered for part of the national programme players are encouraged to gain a LTA rankings by competing in LTA sanctioned events.

National Team Competition

There is currently only one national team competition at the moment which is the Four Nations Event (typically held in March). WimX will be part of the selection panel for this event

  • Welsh National Squad Structure

The squads will be for the following age categories but age groups may well be combined for training purposes and even for selection players may be selected to play in a younger age group.

This will all depend on what is best for the team as a whole.

  • 40+
  • 50+
  • 60+
  • Open

Each age category will consist of:

  • National Squad: 4–8 players

  • Challenger Squad: Up to 8 players (typically 4–6)


Squads will be reviewed twice annually to ensure performance standards and progression
opportunities.

Training Programme

All National Squad members should receive four national training opportunities per year plus there will be additional national training sprinkled throughout the year. These opportunities will be:
• Tailored to individual player needs
• Delivered in small groups where appropriate

Selection Criteria

Selection for National Squad and Challenger Squad inclusion is based on:

1. Player Rankings

  • LTA Padel Rankings
  • FIP Rankings (where applicable)

2. Tournament Activity

  • Players must be actively competing in tournaments. A minimum of 3 LTA or FIP events is desirable per year 

3. Performance

  • Match results
  • Training standards and progression

Selection for Four Nations representation is based on:

1. Competition Profile

Performance in the following events:

  • FIP-sanctioned competitions (including FIP Ranking)
  • LTA graded competitions (including LTA Ranking*)
  • Previous Four Nation Event results
  • Other relevant domestic or international events
    *LTA tournaments are the most important in this case as it is expected anyone representing Wales to be competing in LTA tournaments. Please let us know about any extenuating circumstances in relation to this criteria.

2. Key Performance Factors

The selection panel may also consider:

  • Current form and consistency
  • Commitment, professionalism, and preparation
  • Compatibility and contribution to team dynamics
  • Physical condition and match fitness
  • Conduct during previous Welsh or home nation representation
  • Any other factors relevant to the team’s success

Competition & Player Expectations

  • All players are encouraged to compete in LTA sanctioned tournaments
  • Regular competition is essential for development and selection

Ranking Milestone Guarantees

With the growth of the number of players in Wales it is essential there is an open door policy to those coming through. Therefore we have introduced some ranking milestone guarantees. This means that any player achieving the following ranking thresholds will be guaranteed consideration/inclusion within their age category:

  • Open: Top 200 LTA ranking
  • 40+: Top 150 LTA ranking
  • 50+: Top 100 LTA ranking
  • 60+: Top 100 LTA ranking

Coaching & Support

The purpose of this programme is to:

  • Raise performance levels across all squads
  • Support players at tournaments (including coach attendance where possible)

The Welsh National Padel Pathway provides a clear, performance-driven structure that supports player development, rewards commitment, and prepares athletes for international competition at the Four Nations Event.
